Watermelon Spritz

Mocktail or cocktail, this watermelon spritz is sure to be your go-to all summer long!

Thanks to our friend aperol, spritzes have been on a meteoric rise summer after summer. This recipe swaps out the alcohol for one of summer’s juiciest fruits – watermelon. The sweetness of watermelon paired with the acidity of a touch of lime and, of course, a salty rim makes for a delectable spritz base to pour over fizzy water. I enjoy this as a mocktail but if you’re feeling a kicker, it lends itself perfectly for a shot of vodka or tequila to be added in. Cocktail or mocktail, you’re sure to keep this recipe on repeat all summer.

Ingredients:

(Serves 1)

  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 of a lime, sliced in 3 wedges
  • 1 large coupe of ice
  • 6 oz (3/4 cup) of sparkling water
  • 2 oz (1/4 cup) of fresh watermelon juice*
  • Optional – 3 sprigs of mint for garnish

Directions:

  1. Rim your glass with one of your wedges of lime, then roll the rim of your glass on a plate of salt. You **could** skip this step and not have a salt rim on your glass, but the extra touch goes a long way in transforming your juice to a mocktail!
  2. Place ice in your glass, then pour in your sparkling water and watermelon juice.
  3. Squeeze in the rest of your lime. Garnish with mint and enjoy!**

Notes:

*I used my juicer to juice my own watermelon juice; however, do not fret if you do not have a juicer! Watermelon juice has become very popular and can be found at most grocery stores.

**This very easily could go from a mocktail to a cocktail by the addition of a shot of your preferred alcohol! I’ve made this for friends with both vodka and tequila.

What am I listening to as I make this?

What can I learn while I make this? Watermelon juice has become extremely trendy in recent years for its hydrating properties. Why? Watermelon is 92% water!
