Carrot Mezcal Margaritas

Whether you make this as a cocktail or mocktail, it’s going to rock your world!

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and my year of n/a cocktail creation is in full-swing. Typically we have wine with Thanksgiving, but I wanted a light, bright cocktail to balance out the cozy, heavy Thanksgiving flavors. I also wanted something that seemed on theme. Carrots and oranges are both in season for fall, and the perfect autumnal orange hue. And so these carrot mezcal margaritas were born!

Note: I’ve made these with non-alcoholic mezcal, but created the recipe so that it works as a non-alcoholic or alcoholic cocktail. You can serve both, depending on which you and your guests prefer! See my cooking notes for my n/a mezcal recommendation.

Ingredients:

(Per drink)

  • 2 oz mezcal (or non-alcoholic mezcal)*
  • 2 oz carrot juice**
  • 1/2 oz lime juice (~1/2 lime)
  • 1/2 oz orange juice (~1 wedge)
  • Ice

Directions:

(Total time: 5 minutes)

  1. Always start by putting ice in your glass- this way you’ll never accidentally overfill your glass with liquids. This recipe is shown with my frozen orange slice ice cubes, but you can use whatever ice!
  2. Pour in your mezcal, carrot juice, lime juice, and orange juice. The order does not matter. I’ve freshly squeezed limes and oranges for this recipe and juiced a carrot, but you could buy all three juices at the store.
  3. Stir, and enjoy!

Notes:

*This recipe is designed to taste excellent whether you use mezcal or a good zero proof mezcal. If you’re interested in the latter, I love Optimist Botanical’s “Smokey” – it blends in seamlessly as the typical mezcal would, and has the smokey taste that makes me love mezcal.

** I used my go-to juicer for my carrot juice, but there’s no need to have a juicer to make this recipe. Just like orange and lime juices, carrot juice is widely available at Target, Safeway, Whole Foods – any grocery store.

What if I want to make a mocktail with but not this recipe? Don’t worry– I won’t be offended! Check out these other ideas below:
